Almost all exporters, major manufacturers and wholesalers in Malaysia are members of FEDMAS assay office whereby they can routinely submit their production batches of gold jewellery to FEDMAS for purity check. It helps to build confidence among major buyers of Malaysian made jewellery to Middle East, Northern America, Europe and South East Asia as well.

The 3 FEDMAS laboratories which located in Penang, Kuala Lumpur and Johor Bahru are fully equipped with latest precision apparatus and well qualified and IKM (Malaysia Institute of Chemistry) registered Chemists to conduct purity test for consumers according to Malaysian Standard. This Fire assay or Cupellation Method adopted worldwide is the most accurate form of gold assay test (destructive). There are also the non-destructive test using imported Germany technology XRF method capable of generating results in minutes only. Widely used for quick reference. Consumers are welcome engage assaying or any testing services available in our laboratories.
All gold jewellery sold in Malaysia must be complied to described purity which may be tested based on Malaysian Standard (MS 1365: PART1:1994) developed by SIRIM (Standard & Industrial Research Institute Of Malaysia) under Trade Descriptions (Articles made of Precious Metals) Regulations 1994.
FEDMAS is proud to be one of the working group (Precious Metals) representative of SIRIM to assist and advice standard of purity for jewellery made of precious metals such as gold and silver. The 3 laboratories of FEDMAS (Penang, KL & JB) are the ONLY assay offices in Malaysia accredited under MS ISO/IEC 17025:2005 recognized by Malaysian Standards and International Organization for Standardization.
